Built
To
Play.

Fitter. Faster. Stronger. Sharper. A 6-month coaching program built around one goal — dominating your next season. The players who do the work now are the ones who arrive at college rugby and make an impact. The ones who don't are the ones who wish they had.

Who For

Serious Athletes Only

Unprepared
Players Pay
The Price.

Every year I watch talented players get their first real season handed to them. Not because they lack ability — because they didn't prepare for what was actually coming.

They get outmuscled in contact. They blow up before the final whistle. Their handles break down under pressure. They spend their whole first season catching up instead of making their mark — and some never recover from that start.

No parent wants to watch their son go through that. No athlete wants to look back and know they could have been ready. Built to Play exists so you don't have to.

"The cost of not being prepared isn't just a hard first season. It's lost opportunity, lost confidence, and time you don't get back."

Day One.
Your Choice
To Make.

Every athlete walks onto campus on day one. The question is which athlete you are when you get there.

The one who shows up ready — fitter, sharper, and prepared for what college rugby actually demands. Who earns immediate respect from teammates and coaches. Who belongs there from the first session.

Or the one who spends their whole freshman year catching up, wondering why it feels harder than they expected.

That gap is built in the months before you arrive. Not after. Coach Troy explains exactly why — and what it actually costs when you're not ready.

Three Tracks.
One Outcome.
College Ready.

Everything in Built to Play comes back to one thing — dominating your next season. Not surviving it. Not adjusting to it. Dominating it. Then the season after that. And the one after that. College rugby and beyond is the dream — this is how you build toward it the right way.

02

Sharp
Hands.
Sharp Mind.

Skills are what make you dangerous. Fitness is what keeps you dangerous. We work your handles — catch, pass, reflexes, hand-eye coordination — until they're automatic under pressure. Running lines that read the defence. A kicking game that creates go-forward. Decision-making in real time.

The skills that looked good in high school get exposed fast at college level. We make sure yours don't.

Eat to Beat.
Train to
Win.

You can't out-train bad habits. This track covers the things most programs skip entirely — nutrition that actually supports your training, recovery routines that let you do more, and how to set your week up so training, school, and life all work together instead of against each other.

This is where the mental edge gets built. Consistency. Confidence. Knowing you've done the work when nobody was watching.

What College
Rugby Actually
Looks Like.

I see it every single year. Here's what catches players off guard — and what we prepare for in Built to Play:

  • The contact area is a completely different world. You're suddenly competing against players three and four years older, stronger, and more experienced. Most high schoolers are not physically ready for this on day one.

  • The fitness demands don't stop. College rugby is relentless. The players who can maintain their skill level in the last 20 minutes are the ones who play.

  • Skills get exposed under real pressure. A pass that worked in high school breaks down when the defence is faster and the collisions are harder. Handles need to be automatic, not thought about.

  • Everyone was the best player on their team. The mental adjustment is real — competing for your place, handling criticism, staying confident when the game moves faster than you expected.

I Choose Who
I Work With.
Here's Why.

I'm not looking for perfect — I'm looking for hungry, coachable, and accountable. The athlete who does the work when no one's watching. Who wants to become the best version of themselves now, not later. Who looks at their next season as something to attack, not just get through.

✓ This Is You If

  • You respond. You engage. You do the work without being told twice
  • You train when nobody's watching — not just when your coach is looking
  • You want honest feedback, even when it's hard to hear
  • You want to be better as a rugby player and as a person
  • You respect the transition ahead and want to be ready for it
  • You want your parents to know they left nothing to chance

✗ This Isn't You If

  • You need to be chased to complete your work
  • You're hit-or-miss — engaged one week, gone the next
  • You're not open to being coached on habits, not just skills
  • Someone else wants this more than you do
  • You think you already know what you need to know
  • You're looking for a shortcut, not six months of real work

Real Results.
Real Relationships.

"Working with someone who sees the good in you and believes in you is such a motivating force. He's one of the few people that have impacted my life in a positive way."

— Ben Salem, Kenya International & PR7s Athlete

"The man knows his stuff — the way he goes about skill development and building rugby knowledge means he can help any athlete at any level. I'd recommend him to anyone serious about building their game."

— Rhodes Featherstone, All Blacks 7s

"You were integral to me becoming the person I am right now. An excellent example in so many different ways of how to have a positive impact on everyone you meet. Men like you don't always get the credit they deserve."

— Dane, College Athlete

Coach Troy Hall

"The players who dominate their first college season didn't get lucky. They did the work before they arrived. Built to Play is that work. I want athletes who are hungry, accountable, and ready to become the best version of themselves — not just for college, but for every season ahead of them. In return I give them everything I have. Real coaching, real care, real results. We work hard. And we have fun doing it. That's the deal."

A Note From Troy

Troy Hall Coaching is an independent program run by Troy in a personal capacity. It has nothing to do with Clemson University's recruiting process, admissions, or roster decisions — and it was never designed to. It was designed because Troy genuinely believes that serious high school players deserve access to elite coaching before they get to college — not after.

If you're considering Clemson, working with Troy gives you a real window into his coaching philosophy and what the program demands. That's a genuine advantage. But this program is open to any serious athlete, regardless of where they want to play — and plenty of athletes who have worked with Troy have gone on to other great programs and thrived.

Does this guarantee admission to Clemson? No — admissions decisions are made entirely by the university.
Does it improve my son's recruiting chances? No — recruiting and roster decisions are completely independent of this program.
Can we join if we're looking at other universities?Absolutely. This program is for any serious high school rugby player who wants to dominate their next season — wherever that takes them.

Troy Hall Coaching operates independently of Clemson University. Any recruiting enquiries should go through official Clemson Rugby channels.

Everything
You Want
To Know.

No — and that's the point. This program is built around efficiency, not volume. It's not about doing more. It's about training the right things at the right time. Most athletes waste hours on the wrong work. Built to Play cuts through that — so your son trains smarter, not longer.
Absolutely. Built to Play is designed to flex around other sports, not compete with them. Whether he's in football season, baseball, or anything else — the program adapts to his schedule. In-season we focus on what supports his current training. Off-season we build.
There's no fixed number of hours — because the goal isn't to fill time, it's to use it well. One of the biggest things athletes take away from this program is time management — how to plan their week, prioritise their training, and make every session count. That's a life skill as much as a rugby skill.
The opposite, typically. The fitness, nutrition habits, recovery routines, and mental performance work we do carry across every sport. Speed is speed. Coordination is coordination. Better habits are better habits. Athletes in this program tend to show up to their other sports sharper and more consistent.
Primarily through WhatsApp — check-ins, voice notes, training plans, and quick feedback. Your son submits film and Troy sends back specific, personalised coaching notes. There are regular video call check-ins built in throughout the 6 months. It's not a subscription with a login — it's a real coaching relationship that happens to be remote.
That's fine — the program isn't built around a destination, it's built around the athlete. We work backwards from his college start date once that's confirmed. In the meantime the work is the same: get fitter, faster, stronger, sharper, and build the habits that will serve him wherever he ends up.
Athletic development doesn't require a rugby background. The fitness, skills, and mental performance work in this program builds better athletes — and better athletes adapt faster when they get to college. If your son is heading into college rugby, this is how he closes the gap before day one.
This isn't more training — it's better training. A generic program gives you exercises. Built to Play gives you a coach who knows what college rugby actually demands, who watches your film, who adjusts the plan when life changes, and who coaches the mental side as much as the physical.
